Venedik/Venice

It has already been midnight. Me and my other two friends are walking in the empty narrow streets, searching for our hostel. Sometimes we get lost, and we understand this when we reach to a dead end or when a canal crosses our way. But it is normal because we are in Venice!!!

Just because I was in the place that i wanted to see for all through my life, i spent all night by jumping! (yes, endorphin makes e jump!) Besides, there wasn't anything else to do because noone remembers the crazy nightlife when you say Venice. There are a few bars but they all close at midnight. When I was tired of jumping, i slept. The next day i woke up really early, and i continued jumping on the canals. If you were in Venice on the same dates with me and if you saw a girl jumping all the time, it was me!

Mektup Arkadaşı/ Pen Friend

bir mektup arkadaşım olsun mesela. ama mantıklı biri olsun. duygusal olmasına gerek yok, duygularımı anlasın yeter. bana kendimi sorgulatsın. güzel cümleler kurabilsin, öyle cümleler olsun ki aralarında, ben etkileneyim, birkaç gün tekrar edeyim, defterlerime yazayım. bana sayfalarca yazı yazdıracak cümleler olsun. belki tanıdığım biri olmasını tercih edebilirim. çünkü bazen birilerine hissettiklerimi yazmak istiyorum. ama öyle klasik satırlar değil, en içten gelen en duygusal satırları yazmak istiyorum. karşılığında konuşma olmayacak, söz yok, ses yok! bana cevabı yazarak verecek. yazmanın dışında mektuplardan bahsetmek yok. mesela görüşsek bile, mektubunda neden öyle dedin demek yok, merak ediyorsa yeni bir mektup yazacak.

i want a pen friend. but someone logical. he doesn't need to be emotional, it is enough if he understands my emotion. he must make me question myself. he should be able to write impressive sentences that attracts me. i should repeat those sentences for days, write them to my notebooks, those sentences must make me write for pages, maybe new letters. maybe i prefer someone i know. because sometimes i want to write about my feelings to someone. but not with ordinary sentences, i want to write the most intimate and emotional lines. there won't be any dialog as response, no expression, no voice! he should write me back. we won't talk about the letters. for example, if we meet, he can't ask "why did you say so in your letter?", if he wonders he should write another letter.

Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano

Tuscany region of Italy, is very particular with both scenic beauties and historical places. Although the most famous city of this region is Florence, it has other different cities that are in Unesco World Heritage list, like Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano.

You can buy tickets from Florence train station to Pisa for 7E but for a more efficient trip I strongly recommend you to go with a tour. You can arrange your tour from touristinfo in Florence. Also you can participate into other tours like a tour to Chianti which is famous for its wine.

Pisa, even it is famous for the Leaning Tower, the square that the tower is founded, the Miracla Square is also in Unesco World Heritage list. On the square, there's a cathedral, a museum and an opera. You need tickets to see the buildings. The ticket for leaning tower is 15 €. The cathedral is free on Sunday mornings because of the holy mass.

It took 200 years to complete the Leaning Tower. After construction of the first three floors, the tower started to lean then the construction stopped. After 100 years construction was continued. Galilein who was born in Pisa city made some of his experiments on this tower. (1564 is a really important year. Galillei was born in 1564 in Pisa and Michelangelo passed away in Rome in the same year.) And don't worry, the tower is not going to crush down, the preventions are already done.

Meydanın çevresinde hediyelik eşya satan tezgahlar var. Tezgahtarlar pazarlık etmeye pek de alışkın değiller. Teklifiniz karşısında şaşırıp gülebilirler. Eğik Kule'yle fotoğraf çektirmeden önce size tavsiyem çevredeki kuleyi tutuyomuş pozu veren turistlere bakın, oldukça komik manzaralarla karşılaşabilirsiniz.

Around the square, there are markets that you can buy some souveniers. But the sellers are not used to bargaining, in the case of an offer, they can be shocked and laugh. Before having  some photos with the Leaning Tower, I advise you to have a look at the tourists that are posing as if they are holding the tower, you can see many funny things.

Another city, San Gimignano, is one of the my favorite places. What make this city speacial and to be in Unesco World Heritage list are the towers in the historical centre. Because of the towers, they call this city as "city of the towers", "forest of the towers" or "Manhattan of the middle era". 14 of the 70 towers could have reached reach to our day.

But this city is also famous for different things. Like Vernaccia wine. And of course the gelato that is made of this wine... And saffron... Surprisingly they don't have saffron gelato. How can Italians miss this? May be i miss it...

The most famous tower in the city is known as the "Devil's Tower" which is believed to lengthen after the construction.

The last city that I am going to write about, Siena, is a city with different traditions. Every building in the city is made from brick so that the city is al red. The symbol of the city is a shewolf, you can see the symbol in different places.

In Siena there are 17 neighborhoods, which are known as contrara. Each neighborhood have its own symbol, flag, church and museum. If you are born in Siena, first you are belong to your contrara, then to Siena and then to Italu. Those people are very devoted to their neighborhoods, even they couldn't get married with a person from a different contrara.

Sene de iki kez yapılan bu at yarışlarına 10 at katılıyor. Atların kafalarında ait oldukları mahallenin sembolü oluyor. Yarışlardan önce atlar mahalle kilisesinde kutsanıyor! Kurallar bizim bildiğimiz at yarışlarından oldukça farklı. Atın başında mahalle sembolü bulunduğu sürece jokey düşse bile at yarışa devam edebiliyor. Sadece 2 dk süren bu at yarışlarının kutlamaları günler öncesinden başlayıp günler sonrasına devam ediyor. Bilet fiyatları 3000€'a kadar çıkabiliyor.

The most famous thing of Siena is the horse racing called Palio. 10 horses are participated to the racings that are done twice a year. There are symbolls of the contraras that the horses are belong on head of each horse. Before the racings, the horses are blessed in the church of their contrara.! The rules are different then the horse racings that we know. The horse can continue to the racing as long as it has the symbol on his head, even if the jokey falls. Those racings last for 2 minutes but the celebrations start a couple of days earlier and end a couple of days later. The prize is a cup, the winner contrara puts the cup to its museum. Those racings are on 2 July and 16 August, at Piazza del Campo every year. The tickets can even be 3000€.

Siena Katedrali

If you have the oppurtunity and if you want to see Italy with unknowns you can have a Tuscany trip. There are more in Tuscany then i could go and i could write about, there are other cities in World Heritage list. But still i will remember Tuscany with green prairie and yellow flowers. Tuscanny is a place with peace of mind.

Yeni plan/A new plan

I have lots of friends all over the word. Some of them hosted me, guided me in their cities, some of them are ready to host me whenever i want to go. All of them know that i have a blog, they are telling different stories about their cities for my blog. And all of them say "I wish i could understand your writings." That's why i have decided to go on my blog both in English and in Turkish. I don't know if i can succed English blogging but i decided to try for my good friends. As i find some time, i will translate my older writings too.

Floransa/Florence

Florence or in other words the earth that the Renaissance was born, is not one of the European cities that is called as "city of lovers" but for me it it a "city of love". Because from your first step on this city, from Duomo to River Arno, from Ponte Vecchio to Piazzale Michelangelo the feeling that you have is love.

We can call Florence as "light in the weight heavy in the price" metaphorically because it is a small city with lots of museums, palaces and churches to be seen. In my oppinion a week is needed to see all Florence, don't believe to the tour agencies that say it is a small city and two days are enough.

The first thing that you have to do when you reach to Florence is taking a city map from the touristinfo just across to the main train station of the city. (Firenze SMN) Just after you see the places to be seen on your map and the long lines that in front of each you will understand why two days are not enough. After you take the map you can go to Basilica di Santa Maria Novella and Museo di Santa Maria Novella across to station.

Of course when you say Florence and cathedral the first place that should be reminded is Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Flore. The cathedral which is at Piazza Duomo seems so splendid. You have to wait a line of hundreds of people to visit this cathedral. Cathedral is open between 10.00-17.00. When i looked to the cathedral from outside and remembered about the other cathedrals that look less splendid from the outside but magnificent from the inside i wondered "How is this cathedral from the inside?" but i should say it is not that splendid from the inside, it has a plain beauty. Entrance is free but for climbing to the tower you should wait another long line and you should pay.

You can't imagine about the lines in front of the two most important museums of Florence, Galleria dell'Academia'nın and Galleria degli Uffizi. But i have one good and one bad news. The good news is that you can buy online tickets to see these museums and you can go in without waiting the line, the bad news the online tickets are two times more expensive than the normal tickets.

And the Medici Family.... Medici Family is the inventor of bank system that we use today so they became so rich that like every rich family they started looking for things to spend their money and they were interested in art. I don't know what kind of people were they but all europe and as all world we owe this family something more important than bank system: the  Renaissance. The meaning of the word renaissance is rebirth, rebirth of the art and the science that was lost with the Roman Empire. If you wonder how the family that changed whole Europe was living, you can visit Palazzo Medici Riccardi and Capella Medicee. If you think the artpieces that make Vatican that splendid are made by the artists that are sent by Medici family to Vatican, you can expect to see a place as splendid as Vatican, but i found some builds magnificent in a plainer way.

Piazzale Michalengelo over a hill is the place that i have mostly affeted by. You can go to the hill where you can watch sunset by the bus number 13 that you can take from the station but i recommend you to walk. You can sit on the stairs and watch Florence, affected by the musicians at the square, you can feel "love" again. I lived one of the most amazing nights i have ever had there. Friends that come to live this beauty, couples that want to live the romance with a nice music, a bottle of wine and Florence and the blonde guitarist lady... Everything makes this square better.

Chiesa di San Miniato al Monte is a church that close to this square and the cemetery of the church worths to see. Important families rest there, including the Vespuci Family. On every grave there is a monument that is dedicated to and have some symbols about the person rests there. (By the way did you know that Americo Vespuci was from Florence and also he also named Venezuela. In his letters he said that the houses by the coast of Venezuela look like Venice, this country was named as Venezuela which means small Venice.)

And there's Ponte Vecchio, which means old bridge. The importance of this bridge is that it is the only bridge that wasn't buried by Germans. It's been told that one day Hitler and Mussolini was walking on this bridge and Hitler called a German soldier and commanded not to bury this bridge and so that the bridge stays safe.

                                                 Ponte Vecchio

Ponte Vecchio'da müzisyenler

Floransa birçok sanatçıya can verdiği gibi bir de Pinokyo'ya can vermiş. Bartolucci mağazalarını, birşey almasanız da mutlaka gezin. Pinokyo maketleriyle fotoğraf çektirin.

As Florence gave birth to lots of artists it also gave birth to Pinocchio. See Bartolucci squares even if you don't buy anything, have photos with pinocchio models.

Bar Vivoli is known as the bar with the best gelato in the world but don't get excited that quickly, every italian city has a bar with the "best gelato in the world." And i haven't had so many bad ice cream experience in Italy. On the other hand Bar Pntevecchio has the best straciatella that i had in Italy. But Florence is not so successful about pizzerias. Be careful otherwise they can serve you frozen pizza instead of italian pizza. For accomodation i can suggest you my hostel, in the middle of the city, Hostel Youth Florence.

Although lots of people disagree with me, Florence is my favorite city in Italy. If you come to Italy, you should see and if you have the oppurtunity to stay longer, take this oppurtunity. I will remember Florence as "love", and i hope this city will be generous to you about the feelings that it made me feel.
